Professional Plumbing Services works hard to help you when there's a breakdown. We know how annoying and expensive they can be. But here's a list of simple maintenance tips to help prevent costly repairs.

In General
•
Dripping taps and ball valves are a sure sign that your plumbing system requires maintenance. Fix leaky taps promptly; they waste about 20 gallons of water a day. A leak can ruin your tap set.
•
Make sure you are aware of the location of, and have labelled, the stop valve on the incoming water supply main.
•
Locate, identify and label all other stop valves, checking regularly that they are working correctly.
•  Inspect your cold water storage tank periodically and, if it is metal, ensure there is no corrosion. Call in your plumber if there is any sign of a problem.
•
Periodically drain several gallons of water from your water cylinder. This removes sediment from the bottom of the tank to increase heating efficiency and prolong tank life.
•
In very cold weather take precautions through insulation to ensure that water pipes do not become frozen.
•
Ensure that central heating boilers and other heating appliances are serviced annually.

In your kitchen & bath
•
Do not rinse fats or cooking oils down the drain. Liquid fats solidify in the cold drains pipes and create clogs.
•  Check under sinks for moisture or small leaks. Leaks under sinks should be repaired quickly
to avoid damage to cabinets and floors.
•  Use a strainer in bathroom drains. This
will prevent hair and soap pieces from
clogging drains.
•
Make sure overflow holes on baths and sinks are clear and open to prevent water damage to floors and ceilings.
